My Instrument Panel

Timer on the stick, compass on the windshield, and on the panel to the far right is a small air temp gage. Radio and GPS are mounted on a leg boards. I attempted to use little inexpensive spherical compasses, but found that they could not take the cyclic pressure variations of flying. Then I realized the compass in my car had been in use for years, so I took it out of the mounting and remounted it for use in the plane. It has a flat bottom that can flex with temp and pressure variations with out causing it to leak.

After the top photo was made, I have changed out the EGT and CHT guages for dual guages. Also a throttle position indicator is mounted in the lower left. And, I mounted a little spherical mirror in the upper blank space. It is a safety feature. It lets me see up and to the side behind me. I worry that someone in a faster plane is going to make a straight in approach and may not see me. I check it after I turn final.

Update - 02/18/2004

This is the latest panel. The left two instruments have been changed to accommodate the Victor 1+ engine. Also an elevator position indicator has been installed on the lower middle of the panel.
Update - 10/15/2004

Added a flaperon position indicator to the panel left side just above the throttle position indicator.

More information about the indicator and a new continously variable flaperon control can be found at click.

Update - 9/28/2008

As part of an air fuel mixture cockpit control system, added vacuum gage to monitor pressure over fuel in the float bowl.
