Getting Simonini Victor 1 Ready To Go - Radiator Modifications

No thermostat is used in the cooling system. To regulate engine temperature, a shutter was installed on the front of the radiator. It is a resized roll down window shade for a car window. On the lower left one can see that the radiator lower tank water outlet has been modified to move the coolant back toward the engine. On the middle of the lower tank is a hanger to hold the guide tube through which the shutter pull cord will pass. The vertical bars on the front of the radiator are rub bars made from umbrella bows and will prevent the shutter fabric from being blown back against the radiator core.

The radiator is mounted in three hangers, one on the top tank and two on the bottom tank by passing cylinders attached to the tanks through holes on the end of cantilever hangers. A die was used to cut threads on the cylinders so that a nut could be used to keep the cylinders from bouncing out of the hangers. The bottom right cylinder was drilled and threaded to receive a tire stem valve. The coolant system will be filled and drainned through this valve.

The next two pages give a better description of the shutter mechanism and the coolant return modification.
